Valerian is a sedative and as such is calming and is is used to treat convulsions and most diseases of the nervous system especially those caused primary by emotional or mental difficulty.
Valerian also improves circulation, reduces mucus from colds, is good for anxiety, fatigue, high blood pressure, insomnia, irritable bowel syndrome, menstrual and muscle cramps, nervousness, pain, spasms, stress, and ulcers.
Valerian has been shown to promote better sleep quality and longer sleeping periods, and to reducing the number of times people get up at night. Combines it hops it is great for inducing deep sleep.
*Should not be combined with alcohol.
Directions:
Steep 1-2 teaspoons 2 times per day in 8-12 ounces hot water for 10-15 minutes and drink as a tea. Can be sweetened with a natural sweetener such as honey.
For better sleep take 1 to 2 hours before bedtime.
