Horsetail is a diuretic (promotes urination) which helps to rid the body of toxins and waste.
Horsetail is also used as an eye treatment for conjunctivitis and inflammation of the lacrimal ducts and can be used to make an eye wash.
It's high silica content makes it good for would healing, skin, and cartilage.
It also has a reputation for stopping bleeding both internally and externally.
Directions:
Make a Decoction with 3 table spoons of the herb to 1 1/2 Pints of water. Simmer gently for 1 hour. Strain & cool; take 2-3 fl oz 3-4 times daily.
A Decoction differs from making a tea infusion. To make a Decoction the herb is combined with water in a small pot and brought to a boil. The mixture is then simmered slowly for 15-30 minutes or sometimes simmered until the amount of liquid is reduced by a specified amount. The resulting liquid extract is strained and sweetened if desired and then used according to the instructions.
